Collecting Criterion films? Me? How could you tell?
I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this one. Weakest in the series so far, but giving it a 6 doesn’t feel fair. Actually, no that does seem fair. My main issue with this instalment is that there is a load of stuff which ha no purpose. Far too many scenes which do nothing but either stall the plot, or offer nothing at all to the story. Despite its moments, this film feels incredibly bloated.
I actually quite liked this one. I enjoy how it fully commits to the new tone being set. I think a big positive of what David Yates brought to the series was that he cut a lot of the fat that was evident with IV. While Order of The Phoenix felt trapped between the whimsical and brooding, The Half-Blood Prince feels much more consistent with it's tone.
