Even my intense love for Creature Features left me extremely disappointed with this bland feature by Lorenzo Doumani. I really tried my best to like the film but I couldn't find anything noteworthy to latch onto. The story and script were pathetic and the characters were one-dimensional and just annoying, even our two Star Trek legends, James Doohan (Sheriff Carlson) and George Takei (Dr. Hiro Fujimoto) did nothing to improve the situation, playing boorish stereotypical characters. The only semblance of an attempt to be fun was Randy Quaid's loud and outlandish performance as the exterminator, but even that got tedious real fast. And, don't even get me started on the so called 'giant' bug. One of the most horrendous creature designs I have seen in quite some time.
What a waste of Meredith Salenger's and Katherine Heigl's acting skills. I have not seen many of Katherine's films but I loved her as Dr. Izzie Stevens in Grey's Anatomy where she did a tremendous job. I was heartbroken when she left the show, it just wasn't the same for me after that. Like Katherine, I haven't seen many of Meredith's films but do remember her in Dream a Little Dream back when I was a teenager, one of the many films that helped change my life. She was outstanding as Lainie Diamond.
If you want to see an awesome bug movie, watch Mimic, Starship Troopers, Eight Legged Freaks, The Nest, Tarantula (1955), Ticks, Infestation, Phase IV, Kingdom of the Spiders, and so on.
