The Witch was a true gem from Writer-Director Robert Eggers! I truly offer my congratulations to Robert on such a strong and influential directorial debut! The movie was absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. A solid supernatural Horror with elements of a family's psychological downward spiral into madness as they begin to turn on one another.
The time period was perfect for this type of movie as well as the claustrophobic setting - the edge of the wilderness. My god, even though the witch was only seen twice during the movie (excluding the ending), she was creepy as hell! And I will make sure to steer clear of black goats from now on!
Superb performances from all the main cast. Especially from Anya Taylor-Joy! She is such a great actress and performed her role as Thomasin with pure finesse. Why isn't she in more movies?
My favorite part of the movie was at the end. I was not expecting Thomasin to abandon her faith and sell her soul to the devil (Black Phillip) and then join the other witches. This took me by surprise, such a bleak ending sent chills down my spine!
Bravo Robert Eggers for giving us this Cinematic Masterpiece!
For all of you that took the time to read my review, thank you and I hope you enjoyed it. Comments and positive feedback are always welcome.
