    Scenes from a Marriage

Watched the 5 hour television version.

If Noah Baumbach's film is a Marriage Story, Ingmar Bergman's is a Marriage Epic.

With no disrespect to the former, the five hour format really let's Bergman get to the very roots of relationships, marriage, and possibly even the human condition.

To explain all the emotional nuances in this film would be futile, in fact despite being a very accessible work from Bergman with an absence of fantastical elements and spliced up narratives, I…

  • Dekalog

From the start of watching Kieslowski's Dekalog series, I was set in doing a full review of the series, rather than of individual episodes. Now that I have finished the series, the task of an overall summary seems quite daunting.

To briefly summarize, Dekalog is a Polish television series, directed by Krzysztof Kieslowski that tells 10 stories within an apartment complex. Each of these stories connects to one of the 10 commandments, or in some cases, liberal interpretations of a…

  • WandaVision

Binged it all in a few days. And I liked it but I'm not thrilled with it.

After Endgame I felt satified in how everything wrapped up in the MCU and I felt like my commitment had been rewarded. I figured they would continue to make content and I had no issue with it but I wasn't as interested as I was before since I felt like I got my fill.

I was intrigued by Wanda Vision though because it…

    Being John Malkovich

Finally a Kaufman scripted film clicks for me.

I was always finding that I loved the ambitious ideas he writes about but I always found them more entertaining in theory than what I was actually watching on screen. Not here though.

Every scene had me entrained and every idea felt like it was represented visually in a way that was just as fulfilling as it is intellectually. Have to give huge credit to Spike Jonze as well. I wasn't as pleased with how Adaptation came together but here he masterfully balances such a dense, mind-bending, and hilarious concept/script.

    Man I love movies.

The Trial of the Chicago 7

Was it a little cheesy, yes. Was it a little overdramatic, definitely. Was the editing a little distracting, yeah.

Was I engaged and entertained the whole time, you bet.

The Trail of the Chicago 7 is a very "movie" movie and a crowd pleaser but it never really claims to be anything different. With a screenplay that fires on all cylinders and strong performances all around it is definitely the most gripping and engaging film of the year.

    Opening Night

Gena Rowlands is an absolute master of playing sympathetic crazy. 90% percent of the time you have no idea what is going on in her head but you feel every emotion.

The movie is pretty good as well. Those last 20 minutes, I have never seen something quite like that in film but man did it put a smile on my face.
