Currently showing my favorite Christmas movies below:
Despite the third act needing some tightening in narrative, this adaptation stands as one of the most elegant and imaginative experiences of a classic story. I loved the theatricality of it: the changing of scenarios on stage, the choreography of every character move and gesture, the background paintings, the fake flower fields and snowfalls, the controlled dimming of the stage lighting, etc. It’s definitely Joe Wright’s boldest film, and surprisingly his most underrated.
A movie for Broadway lovers.
Sure, we can talk about how excellent Andrew’s performance is, but we already knew he was going to be this good. The man can do no wrong. What we actually need to talk about is Lin-Manuel Miranda’s work: there’s nothing mind-blowing but I saw some pretty neat directorial choices here. He should have directed In The Heights.
Also, this might be the movie with the most cameos of 2021. It has about 45 cameos… Can No Way Home beat that number? I doubt it.
