[muffled sound, indistinguishable noises]
It is the fear of deteriorating, of losing something, a sense, that we have taken for granted. Sound of Metal is heartbreaking and intense, as it shows the main character losing his hearing and going through stages of denial, anger, frustration, sadness and eventual acceptance. You can feel the angst and the struggle of Ruben, the need to find a solution, the fear of not knowing what to do, the feeling of being alone. The story is executed in a simple way, but it is really effective and touching.
A great directorial debut and overall a great movie.
