That Joker movie from a couple years ago is pretty much entirely lifted from this movie and transitively King of Comedy

really tugs at the heat strings more than your usual film noir

Cats (2019) was better

As close to perfect as your can get with a horror film. Doesn't rely on jump scares or gore. Carpenter proves less is more with atmosphere, camera movement, and score to create the isolated, declining, and loss of innocence of middle America. IMO one of the greatest film makers of all time
