Planes, Trains and Automobiles ★★★½

Both this and Uncle Buck remain my 'John Hughes movies that I can actually tolerate' mostly because the offences in those films (some mild awkward homophobia in this, and some mild awkward slut shaming in Uncle Buck) are better than what you have to sit through with some of his other movies - things like casual racism and the attitude that date rape and stigmatizing people who deal with anxiety or depression are totally okay. While those movies are impossible for me to deal with - even as time capsules of the slightly distant past, this is pretty okay and reminds me of watching Thanksgiving movies with my mom. (In case anyone is curious, I was always more of a Neal as I am pretty intolerant of minor annoyances and have a high stress and anxiety level which make it really hard for me to get along with, well, pretty much anyone.)
