Rear Window

Rear Window ★★★★★

"Mind if I use that portable keyhole?"

Cinema is undoubtedly a form of voyeurism. We look through a window and observe the lives of others. Occasionally for amusement, but usually for gratification. One could argue that all cinephiles are deviants.

Hitchcock understood this attraction better than any other filmmaker, and Rear Window is his purest execution of that idea. Masterfully staged - several shots remain staggering - impeccably acted, and exquisitely wrought. A thrilling exercise in audience manipulation.

Plus, Grace Kelly. Need I say more?
