Matt Rosenblatt’s review published on Letterboxd:
Now I may be biased here because the original is one of my favorite movies of all time.
But here goes nothing,
To put it simply, this is straight trash. Let’s start with the story. It doesn’t make much sense and it was created with an agenda put first rather than a narrative and its characters. I am all for films that have something to say. I don’t really want to get into the heavy handed nature of the films agenda. I just wanna talk story. It seriously just falls so flat and comes off as so bad it’s funny. It seriously makes the 2006 remake look like a masterpiece.
I’m genuinely amazed a studio like Blumhouse, a studio that has been a good track of hits and landing big titles like Halloween. Would take a title like Black Christmas and just do what it did to this remake.
Idk man I’ll leave it at that for now. But I’ll say this, there’s few times I’ve ever wanted a film to flop but I definitely want this to flop.
