Michael Boyle’s review published on Letterboxd:
It my apparent quest to see everything Jack O'Connell has done I watched Starred Up. That's 3 O'Connell movies in the span of a week - totally unplanned.
Eric Love (Jack O'Connell) is a young, very violent, inmate recently transferred (early) from a Juvenile Detention Center to an adult prison presumingly due to his violent tendencies. Once inside, Eric quickly get's into altercations and begins making enemies forcing him to begrudgingly rely on his father (Ben Mendelsohn) who is also serving on the inside to keep him from getting killed.
I think my O'Connell journey is probably at an end and I finished with in my opinion the best of the bunch. I really think he is going to be the next huge British star to take off and I fully expect to see him in a lot more American movies moving forward.
This is a great movie and I recommend this to everyone!
