I feel as if this is almost what Bright was trying to achieve (keep in mind I’ve only seen 30 minutes of it). A fairy tale esque genre story set in a modern day backdrop. But where that fails, and Pan’s Labyrinth succeeds, is that it always try’s to be a modern day buddy cop movie, yet never attempts to have any whimsicalness to it. You know, like actual fairy tales. It feels messy and rushed, but Guillermo’s film is so fulfilling and has so much going for it. From the animatronics to the story, I can’t help but love this movie.
