The Rider presents a very authentic and sweet look at rural living, masculinity, and loss.
Nothing fancy here, just solid film-making. I tend to really enjoy these types of movies, but THE RIDER didn't move me enough to warrant more stars.
All the actors' performances are also unpretentious. I haven't read a thing about the film, but I expect I'll learn that all or most of them are all first-time actors.
P.S. I still stand by my 2010 pronouncement: horses are other-worldly beasts
