• A Quiet Place Part II

    A Quiet Place Part II

An solid & entertaining film for my first return to the movie theater. It was somewhat restrained, which I appreciated.

I also appreciated the ending: don't worry, mom, those two kids are gonna be alright.

  • GoodFellas

It's so f**king good. I f**king teared up a couple times simply because it was so perfectly f**king beautiful, like seeing heaven for the first time. The music, the quotable lines of dialogue, the subtle facial expressions, the accelerating velocity; it's the pinnacle.

Kaluuya was great, learned something (though I'm skeptical of bias when a movie is written by a spouse and child of a real-life figure), but ultimately I think it will be a mostly forgettable movie for me.

  • Da 5 Bloods

    Da 5 Bloods

Loved the first third. I'd like to see a version of this movie that didn't go all FUBAR in the final two thirds. It was really great reflection on the Black experience, the Vietnamese experience, friendship, and shared trauma.

    One Night in Miami...

All my life, I never could watch a movie adapted from a stage play and not gotten distracted by thoughts of how "this movie sure feels like a stage play". It's ruined a lot of quality movies over the years, including this one.

Ahmed's performance was even better on the second watch, holy cow.

    Promising Young Woman

Promising Young Premise and actress, flawed and uneven execution.

  • Time

Sweet and moving film and: what a woman.

Damn, based on those homes, teachers make some coin in Denmark!

One of the better portrayals of the benefits (whoo hoo I'm flying!) and the costs (poor old pup) of alcohol. And of trudging through middle-age.

Mads delivers some of the most spot-on facial reactions that I can remember.

    Fun music!

A couple of bothersome things along the way:
    - I kept vacillating between "oh, this movie isn't just about him (Mads), it's about all four of them" and "well,…
