I have lost count how many times I have watched this film, yet on every repeat viewing it still brings a smile to my face.
A great werewolf tale, with a talented cast giving it their all, and some quality humour and witty banter between the characters. The horror is achieved through clever framing rather than jump scares, and of course those wonderful practical special effects.
It's amazing that in the *38* years since this movie was released, there hasn't been a werewolf story that comes close to matching it for atmosphere, acting nor special effects. In my opinion, the only werewolf movie that can stand toe-to-toe with American Werewolf is The Howling - both of which were released in the same year.
An absolute horror-comedy classic.
