“It’s all a deep end.”
*Note for posterity: the last movie I watched in a theatre before coronavirus shutdown.
We watch Sonny and Isabella falling for each other on the dance floor, and we watch their friends watching this happen with dread on their faces.
The bond between Sonny and Rico is the metric by which both men define intimacy with romantic partners. "She's as real as you."
Gong Li is incredible and delivers some of the greatest "up-nods" in cinema history.
And it has no future.
Then there's nothing to worry about.
“You labor or management?”
“If I were management I wouldn’t have given you a cigarette.”
One of the most "it’s a job" heist movies. We learn during the briefing scene that DeNiro's "Sam" and the rest of crew are each contracted for about $40k (or less) to steal the briefcase in Nice. Probably the most meager payoff I've seen in this kind of thing.
