Stalker

Stalker ★★★★★

Stalker is....without a doubt... a. fucking. masterpiece. I seriously don't know where to begin with this genuine triumph of cinema. letterboxd.com/wiseguy76/ recommended me this movie, and I can't second this enough.

I'm just gonna start with something a lot of people will find tedious about Stalker: the length. Oddly, time flew by so fast while watching this. Sure, there are some slow-paced parts, but all of this feels right because Andrei Tarkovsky is an absolute genius. Every single directorial choice in this movie feels right, every single shot is placed perfectly, this is all thanks to Andrei Tarkovsky, this honestly might be the most perfectly directed film i have ever seen, back in 1979, this got mixed reviews, but now this has gone down as a true classic of cinema, and yep, I can totally fucking see why, the sheer love Tarkovsky has towards this film, towards the film-making craft, is simply astounding, there are some shots that last a few minutes long, but again, this feels right, every choice made was made with the most care, passion, and knowledge of film I have ever seen, I was simply blown away. Every acting performance was also phenomenal, every word uttered, every facial expression, every small detail, was simply perfect, and again, it's just so obvious that everyone who worked on this movie knew exactly what they were doing, everything was done on purpose, none of the actors, none of the people behind the scenes pulled all this shit out of their ass, every. single. frame, inch, and detail, was made expertly, sorry for gushing about the detail so much, it's just simply astounding. Easily the best attention to detail I have ever seen in a film. Everything about this film just blew me away, to the point where no matter how much I explain why it's so great, it will never truly do it justice, everything is just so powerful to the viewer, I just find it so hard to explain the sheer impact that it leaves on the viewer. The plot is just pretty basic, but once you finish it, you are just left with this awe, that few movies can capture, it's safe to say that this film deeply impacted me like few others have, and I truly have no idea why, if I'm being completely honest, I didn't really learn a message from this film, but something about it just spoke to me, sat me down and had me utterly mind-blown with its presentation, and just reminded me what cinema could truly accomplish, I think it's safe to say that in some wave, shape, or form, you will be a changed person once it finishes. This film just has such a great and ominous atmosphere, which is due a lot to the score, which has this really ominous feel to it, and I think it's just great. I could truly gush about this film for ages and ages, but nothing I could ever say would truly do this film justice, it is simply put, a masterpiece, something that everyone should watch at least once in their life, something that anyone can watch and get something out of, something so special, something so unique, something so genuinely mind-blowing and compelling about it, that makes this movie one of my absolute favorites of all time. It may not be my favorite, or even the most well-made film ever, but it's impossible to deny what a tremendous cinematic achievement this film truly is.
