Mikey’s review published on Letterboxd:
There is some genre satire in this that is so brilliant and fun and unexpected that it turns any flaws into welcome confusion, into more space to get lost in. Hilarious and sometimes awesome. I don't really care if it has anything political to say (some people seem to think it's prophetically genius?) or is just a jumble of crazy scenes and moods. I definitely experienced it as the latter. I'm excited to watch it again. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I put it on late last night. I kinda can't believe this exists.
It is crazy that the ousted ex-governor of Missouri, Eric Greitens, stole a conservative ad from this movie and made it way crazier: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf2Gai1uQYM
(The ad in Southland Tales, which doesn't have explosions, has become relatively common-place and tame Republican campaign material since Greitens ran.)
