    Nobuhiko Ōbayashi and Seijun Suzuki have a lot in common; they are both terrible directors who make bad movies that non-Japanese people for some bizarre reason think are works of genius. The acting is bad, the story simplistic with a heavy handed anti-war message, the editing seems choppy, and like many Japanese period pieces made from the 70s onward no attempt has been made to have the characters inhabit the time frame in which the story takes place.
