Soul

Soul

passionate, tender, full of emotion—Soul is a moving and imaginative take on some Big Ideas: life, death, purpose. these lofty ideas are explored in broader strokes, which works in the colorful world built, even if some more nuance would have been welcomed. it is nice there’s not necessarily a capital-B-G Bad Guy, and instead focuses on two compelling leads with Joe and 22. the Jerrys are brilliantly designed and i could’ve looked at them forever. Reznor and Ross’ score also really elevates the film, and might be a new all-time favorite

the ending felt a bit... rushed? unresolved? it felt inevitable, perhaps, given the target audience and stakes, but something did feel a bit... half-baked. like a first thought kind of tinkered but not really revised or challenged. as a viewer it made me happy but i wonder if that’s the key emotion to be wrought here. overall tho v good v lovely v made me choked up
