    WandaVision

watching Elizabeth Olsen play in full daffy comic mode early on was refreshingly delightful, to obviously say nothing of Kathryn Hahn hitting home runs, but everything I connected to kind of disappeared as it gradually became the show everyone knew/worried it would become. most interesting as Teyonah Parris' story of being changed after choosing to directly face the physical manifestation of grief, but mostly bummed knowing such a charming talent is gonna be a supporting role the next 5 or…

    Death Becomes Her

a bit slow to get going and loses some steam at the end when it goes full Zemeckis Zany™️ (ha ha hey look it's Elvis), but the middle stretch over the stretch of the long night that lets Streep, Hawn & Willis (delightful in a rare manic mode) play off each other (when they're not killing each other) is wonderful, and the actual ending is a delightfully bitter pill. nothing but respectful looks for Isabella Rossellini

Within the Coen's filmography, I'd say if Barton Fink and A Serious Man are a Summer on the…

I'm going to start on a strange note, so bear with me here. While watching The Grand Budapest Hotel, the easiest comparison I could think of was The Wolf of Wall Street. As WoWS was Martin Scorsese taking his indulgences, guilty pleasures, and cinematic flourishes, and grinding into them with every ounce of energy and vigor he's got, The Grand Budapest Hotel is Wes Anderson doing the same thing. Though obviously not a bombastic and in-your-face as WoWS, The Grand…
