One of my formative cinematic experiences was discovering David Cronenberg during my mid to late teens and running through every film of his that I could get my hand on. His body horror stuff in the ‘70s and ‘80s especially blew my mind, and the ways that he brought those elements into his work even as he evolved into other areas. It’s been a sad time not having any new films from him in almost a decade now, and his…

Senegalese filmmaker Djibril Diop Mambéty directed two feature films in his career, and they’re both absolutely sensational. Struggles to balance the paranoia thriller with the character study, ultimately being interesting yet lacking in each aspect. The star of the show here is Gordon Willis, doing some of his finest work so early in his career. He was Pakula’s not-so-secret weapon this decade, and watching this again made me want to just go on a marathon of watching every movie he ever lensed (minus the Woody ones).

The first time I saw this movie was a decade ago,…

    The To Do List

    My To Do List:

    01. Invent time travel.
    02. Go back in time.
    03. Stop myself from ever seeing this movie.
