Benn Ray’s review published on Letterboxd:
"Little by little the look of the country changes because of the men we admire."
Hud is a Mid-century warning of the sort of entitled and toxic libertarian-inclined white masculinity that threatens to derail the country some 60 years later.
"You live just for yourself, and that makes you not fit to live with."
Newman again plays the sort of nasty, petulant, shit that so defined much of his early career. Hud is rich in tight dialogue and great performances and wonderfully bleak photography of the inhospitable landscape.
"You have another little drink, and I'll have another little drink and maybe we can work up some real family feeling here."
