I think it says a lot about this film that the first time I saw it, I didn't understand it. Even about 52 years after it's release and it's influence all over the board, ''2001: A Space Odyssey'' is still so different from most modern sci-fi, most modern CINEMA that it feels like a new, fresh breath of air despite being as old as it is. This film is almost more like a sensory experience than a film(if you watch it in the cinema where this film uniquely belongs) and despite the traditional rigidity of the images this is a film that takes the breath away and leaves one dumbfounded. A momentous achievement for any era.
