Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War ★★★★★

98/100

"We kick names and take ass."

For some people growing up, the likes of Star Wars or The Lord of the Rings were the films that really embodied their childhood - they really made them the people they are today. For me however, I never had Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, all I had was the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So when I finally sat down to watch the culmination of the entire universe - the ten years in the making universe - I succumbed to these characters that meant the world to me and to finally see Avengers: Infinity War really meant the entire world to me.

As a comic-book fan, as a nerd in general, & as a film fan of all types, Anthony & Joe Russo's Avengers: Infinity War *was* the film of my life. I've been with these characters since the beginning, I've seen them grow and evolve into these perfect portrayals of my childhood heroes so wonderfully. It's no surprise to me that I gave the film 5 stars - with so many emotions going through me, watching the film brought me happiness, sadness, excitement, all these just put into one big spectacle of my childhood.

After having two back-to-back successes in the MCU with Winter Soldier & Civil War, bringing back the Russo's to direct Infinity War was really just the right thing to do. What I love most about them is the way they can handle all these characters and make it so each has their own story in a way, and no character really felt out of place. I also admire how they stopped the shaky cam action and went with big strokes of clean & crisp action and set pieces that filled me to the brim with excitement.

While some people give credit to Robert Downey Jr. for really becoming his character, in all honestly, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, & Mark Ruffalo all belong in the conversation as well. Each and every character here is perfect. All of them coming together was put to the screen perfectly and every interaction & conversation just fit so well. I also have to give props to Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, & all the Guardians for bringing in fantastic performances as always.

While the old saying "Marvel never has any good villains" may apply to a lot of their early films, with Phase 3 and the induction of Thanos, it really can't come into the conversation ever again. Josh Brolin hits it out of the park playing Thanos. The Russo's really did a fantastic job at creating an interesting & "sympathetic" universe-threatening villain - that really lets you, not necessarily agree with him, but see the reasoning he does everything and it works wonderfully.

There is no doubt in my mind that I will continue to watch and love any film that comes from the MCU; whether it is a single origin story or a big team-up movie, you'll find me in the theater cheering with the rest of you. Anthony & Joe Russo's Avengers: Infinity War did everything I wanted it too, hit all the right emotions with me, & overall just had me happy to be a fan of what Marvel Studios' has created. You may be done with superhero movies, but I'm so ready for anything they decided to throw our way; because in short, Avengers: Infinity War is a masterpiece.
