Joe: "Ruben. As you know, everybody here shares in the belief that being deaf is not a handicap. Not something to fix. It's pretty important around here. All these kids... all of us, need to be reminded of it every day."

SYNOPSIS: A heavy-metal drummer's life is thrown into freefall when he begins to lose his hearing.

Wow. Wow. Wow. I watched this film about a month ago and as I sit here and type out this review its residual impact is still seeping through my pores. Damn.

No amount of words can suffice for either Riz Ahmed's performance or the chemistry that he and Olivia Cooke possessed in this film. It was just... surreal and beautiful. This was one of those experiences that just envelops you and doesn't let go even after the final credits gracefully slide down the screen. It stays with you.

This is a film that should be a major player in a variety of categories come Oscar season. Personally, it's my favorite film of the year with Riz Ahmed's performance also being number one in my books thus far, with Paul Bettany's Uncle Frank rendition being a very close second.

The struggle to find meaning in the madness can seem insurmountable and impossible. It is when we find peace amongst the noise and chaos that we truly begin to see the big picture. All humans know this and experience adversity in one form or another. The way that it is portrayed in this masterpiece should connect to every single person in some form or fashion.

DIRECTOR: Darius Marder
WRITER(s): Darius Marder, Abraham Marder
FILMING LOCATIONS: Boston, Massachusetts

Anything I else I try to say will only minimize the impact that it has had on me. Darius Marder's execution and the screenplay are flawless while the performances, led by Ahmed's stunning transformation, speak for themselves. It is as close to a perfect film as there is IMO. One of the year's best films.

Stay safe my friends.
