A little slow and maybe a tad obviously plotted but the charm is in the performances.
Macy and Bello are surprisingly naked a lot in this somewhat dry tale of double crossing and sleaze. Everyone does a great work to support the plot and raises the material to heights it might not otherwise have reached.
I rather enjoyed the machinations and the notion that a person could use their innate luck as a marketable commodity.
Yay for Ron Livingston!
Pretty wicked and blackly amusing.
I felt a strong kinship with Wood's other recent black comedy I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore (2017). It's a gentle riot of mishaps and bloody violence with a superb B-List cast who should be regarded and hired a whole lot more for fun material like this.
Six writers is never a good sign on a non-anthology movie, it smacks of "It's not working, more writing!"
Abel Ferrara is not one of my favourite directors the man has pulled a few great movies out of nothing but his sloppy style is incredibly hit or miss.
Starting right off with a Tell-Dont-Show voice-over that rather blandly feeds us the setup for stuff that doesn't matter and could have been done with the characters having a conversation.
CMC 2021 week 01: Demon Cop is lazily made, horribly cheap, excruciatingly acted and exactly what makes bad movies fun.
You can see the actors were trying, they just weren't capable and the production team didn't care. This is most obvious when the actors repeatedly flub lines and they are left in (even in ADR!), no 2nd takes.
Cameron Mitchell bookends the movie in a non-sequitur performance that seems sellotaped in from what should be an anthology movie or show..…
