Multiverse of Film’s review published on Letterboxd:
Pardon me for a few grammatical errors, it's about 2 a.m. right now and I'm really tired, so that's that.
The way I see it, Martin Scorsese's films are split into two category; artistic and non-artistic. The King of Comedy, Raging Bull and Taxi Driver belongs to the artistic -- while Goodfellas, Casino and The Departed belongs to the latter. Now, a wise man once said, “all movies are artistic”. But what I meant by “artistic” is the vibe of a certain film. When you compare Taxi Driver and Goodfellas, the vibe is off. It's totally different. Taxi Driver felt more artistic, while Goodfellas felt less-artistic.
Anyways, Taxi Driver is an interesting film. I feel like I wouldn't be doing it justice if I attempt to explain as to why I like the film -- so I'm just gonna list a few nitpicks. I feel bad for saying this, but there are moments where the film became unintentionally funny. Moreover, the whole thing with Iris is so f!cked up. It's like seeing a film adaptation of Metamorphosis. And that's coming from a guy who likes Oldboy.
Final Verdict: B+
