We Need to Talk About Kevin or What Happens if Your Mum is Tilda Swinton.
I went into this knowing little about it or its source material. What I ended up watching was an art-house horror (for want of a better description). Tilda Swinton is very good in the lead role and the film is very well shot and put together. However some scenes were overly imaged laden, coming across as heavy-handed, with the overuse of red (whether jam, paint or whatnot) being a prime example.
It is a touchy subject matter and can be frustrating to see a child manipulate and misbehave to such an extreme and not have anyone properly interject. Though I guess that is the crux of the film. It is a very one-sided viewpoint shown and you do get the feeling of being manipulated by it.
The way the film went back and forth, scenes sometimes melding into each other was both rewarding and equally niggling, I found myself wishing it to hurry up at points. On the whole, though I found it to be a good film, albeit one I would not revisit.
