i try to not go film student technical in these reviews but the camerawork in this is phenomenal and i’m surprised by how few reviews this has and i’m also surprised that this isn’t regarded as a revolutionary film wtf
this is so unbelievably fun, the performances are brilliant and the story is so effortlessly entertaining. it feels very floaty and it’s literally like we’re running around this theatre with them. I’m also a sucker for a film about some form of performing so yeah this was a nice time and also a spooky time oooo 👻

There is something beautifully haunting about this.
One one hand, Cuarón’s camera wanders around this dystopian nightmare, often not even following the current action, giving the film an unorganised and anarchic quality.
On the other hand, this story finds the beauty in childbirth. Much of the frustration at immigrants and general chaos stems from the infertility on the planet, this disorder reverting humanity to a primitive protect the pack mentality. That in itself shows how precious our ability to create…
