We're reminded in the first act or so that "starfish" is slang for "asshole" then at the end a giant "starfish" brainwashes a bunch of smaller "starfish" who were told to "cover your face" but didn't.

Flag, an actual patriot, vs. Jan 6-esque Peacemaker, a narcissistic twit wrapped in the flag.

Yeah, Trumpsters really took Gunn to school.

A 2-3 hour film with this for the first 20-40 minutes might have worked really well. Going for horror with an under-established ensemble feels like a waste of TNM--doing this as a horror film without any reference to Marvel properties might also have worked really well. As is, we get a few moments in which we see what a TNM film could have been, if they'd played up the action/adventure elements, lightened the tone more often, showed the team as a team, connected it more to the actual X-Men, made Sinister more than an Easter egg... really, the list is long.

    Here's the subtitles:

    雨給夢沖涼
    沒關的窗戶
    研究風
    我呀
    在寫信
    寄給羊水
    信裡提到
    宇宙稱呼它為灰
    我們叫地球
    還提到
    風車不能騎
    但是
    石頭可以打水漂
    你呀
    到時別忘了
    用小小的哭聲
    款待我

The song is called 轻轻地告诉你 and there's a version that sounds close if not by 杨钰莹 on youtube.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Feels like Rosemary's meets The Witch meets The Ice Storm meets Stephen King's "Gramma."

Seems somewhere between the recent Folk Horror resurgence (The Witch, Kill List, The Reunion) and Lovecraftian stuff we've started getting now that Lovecraft's corpus is public domain.

I like the just-a-demon-and-a-house slow-burner subgenre (e.g. Lovely Molly), so I might be overrating this one.
