Love is strange. You don’t chose who you love rationally. You don’t always chose correctly. Sometimes you chose the wrong person. The person who is manipulative and abusive either physically or emotionally. If you have ever chosen incorrectly you will understand this film whole heartedly. If you have been so lucky as to avoid dating the wrong person in your life, good for you, but don’t judge this film or us for our mistakes. We are all just living our lives to the best of our ability. Anyway, this movie is poetic, gorgeous, personal and very honest.
I understand why some people are put off by Promising Young Woman. It's a movie that is speaking a different language than your typical stoggy oscarbate movie. Being 1 part bubble gum pop girl power, 1 part classic horror exploitation and 1 part murder revenge with a sprinkling of romanic comedy. It's kinda like if Jennifers Body, Get Out, Night of the Hunter, the Virgin Suicides and sweet valley high all had a baby. No wonder some more establishment movie…
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
This is the rise of skywalker of the DECU.
Martian Manhunter = Dyad (both are not setup or explained but treated as important)
Post credit dream sequence = I'm Rey Skywalker (both are tacked on to a movie and only make what was already bad worse)
Is it a miracle that a director got to finish a movie years after it's release? Yes
Is it better than Joss Whedon's version? Yes
Is it a good movie that is well paced? Absolutely not!
