The plant really steals the show here which is wonderful, but it’s perhaps a little to bizarre for my taste. The vocals are absolutely ATROCIOUS across the board and I could really do without the disturbing and unnecessary physical humor of Steve Martin and Bill Murray.

Fantastic all around. My only critique is Spike should have spent more time establishing his conversion in the plot. A lot of time is spent with him learning the teachings of Nation of Islam, but not the emotional conversion that resulted from it in Malcolm’s life. It’s also too long but I won’t knock that too much. It’s a complex story.

When the typical western narrative clearly dichotomizes who is good from who is evil, this film is full of nothing but moral gray areas as it develops its characters. Will is an ex-outlaw constantly struggling to change his ways. Little Bill is a sheriff ultimately seeking to keep his town safe even if it means letting assailants of women go with just a slap on the wrist. The…
