A female lead ‘The Changeling’ that unfortunately isn’t as tight or coherent but does have an overbearing soundtrack and long talks about the nationality-provoked mutilation of a little German boy. This is a confused mess of clichés and odd death scenes, not poorly directed but just directed poorly. The premise would have been explored more but the lack of steady focus cause one to ask just what the hell we’re doing scene-by-scene. The ending “twist” lands with a thud but…

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

    ★★★★

What starts out as a tale of watery revenge reveals itself to be about humanity & family, all accompanied by Portuguese, acoustic guitar David Bowie songs. This is Wes Anderson’s most out-and-out comedy and o think Bill Murray in the leading role is a key element of that. Dry or wet, Bill Murray’s humor & wit bleeds through. This is a fantastic movie that took a lot of effort to make yet pulls it all off effortlessly. Overall, dive in! The movie’s fine!

Pretending I'm a Superman: The Tony Hawk Video Game Story

Gives you a serviceable documentary that would have been better suited for a game’s BTS DVD doc on a disc you’d never watch. After getting a decent explanation of skating culture running up to the THPS inception, along with a run down on who Tony Hawk is and why he’s real important BEFORE the game was made, we come to find the “meat” a bit too thin. The games of which we’re celebrating are just sorta listed off without much…

“Man, if I ran my own racist Westworld, here’s what’d I’d do different...” isn’t a statement I’d expect to make, let alone, multiple times during this movie but... WOW, if you’re looking for black torture porn-meets-The Village... sigh, then ‘Antebellum’ tragically is the movie for you. Learning that this is the first writing/directing/producing effort by the two co-directors, who were music video directors before this, makes WHY this movie plays the way it does easier to understand but still FAR…
