Torin’s review published on Letterboxd:
Written by a Sorkin Bot AI algorithm, this movie goes through the motions of a 60’s court room drama with rote sepia tones over stylized black leather coats and sunglasses that Hollywood thinks everyone in the Black Panthers wore. It’s simple to follow and watches more like a play. 80% of the scenes take place on a single set with overly dramatic caricatures dropping zingers and then pausing for the courtroom (and presumably also us) to gasp at the injustices of the US system.
If you’re in the mood for a self congratulatory film touching on race without having any substantive black characters then enjoy. I hope it ameliorates some guilt and helps you feel like you’re one of the good guys. Personally, I’m bracing myself for the oscars to pretend this movie was any good.
