There’s something about John Carney movies that are unlike any other movie out there. Sing Street and Begin Again have been some of the most personal movies to me. It’s hard to put it into words, but both movies have impacted me so much. They remind me a little too much of the past, and it kind of hurts, but through the incredibly profound music and the layered characters and relationships in these movies, it helps relieve all of those anxieties and worries. It’s always a cathartic experience whenever watching these two movies, I would love for John Carney to keep doing what he does best.
Good stuff. Really enjoyed this one. Paul Dano kinda stole the show to be honest as this egomaniac masquerading as a prophet of the Lord. Lots of symbolism and metaphors I’m sure, drawing relationships between the oil and the films title, There Will Be Blood. I got lots of 2001: A Space Odyssey vibes as well with the ominous score and the long, drawn out scenes with little to no dialogue. I’m glad I finally got around to watching this movie, it was fantastic to say the least. Time for a milkshake.
