    Ip Man 3

    ★★★

The story is all over the place and the film as a whole is a little too sad to fully have fun with- it’s not really a blast in the same way the first two were. Anyway, I still liked it and Donnie Yen is doing absolute bits for a bloke pushing 50, what a guy. Also for some reason, unless I was hallucinating, Mike Tyson is in this and he may as well be speaking Chinese too cos I…

    Ip Man 2

    ★★★½

This has the funniest representation of British people I’ve seen in a film since Saladin: The Victorious. IP Man 2 is an absolute hoot- not as tight as its predecessor, but it’s a perfectly adequate sequel that has a lot of fun with itself, which is nice to see. I absolutely love this IP Man fella- it’s 1am and I’m just about to put on the next one.

I liked this but it’s not as good as Hereditary and nowhere near as good as The Wickerman- I watched the latter a couple of weeks ago and it, perhaps, killed this experience for me. There’s many ways to look at this film, but most recently I’ve liked to view it as a metaphor for social media clout chasers- those who virtue signal and those who feel the need to constantly portray themselves as being involved, active, and up to date with matters that are, in fact, completely insignificant to their narcissistic agendas. In other words: where there’s misery there’s margins- but margins can be social or political, not exclusively financial. Idk. Just don’t be like Lou, for fuck’s sake.
