PLEASE READ!!!
i don’t think i’m particularly “famous” on letterboxd, but i recognize that i have almost 1,000 followers and that’s enough of a platform to share useful information about everything going on in America right now.
A MASTER LIST OF BLM DONATIONS, EMAILS, PETITIONS, AND MUCH MORE!
i understand how it can be easy to feel hopeless right now, but please understand doing the smallest acts of spreading information/donating/engaging with local BLM politicians can go a long way! i can’t compile a list of all of the local BLM politicians in the US that my American followers can contact, but i can post a very informative list of places to donate (very kindly put together by Letterboxd legend Brat Pitt) for you all to engage with! white people must take it upon themselves to actively become actively engaged in denouncing racism and creating spaces for black voices to be heard and understood, and this is a place to start. please understand that donations can go a very long way and i highly encourage you to donate what you can or at the very least share this post/the links in it! and remember, DO NOT donate through change.org! they take a percentage of what you donate!!!
BLACK LIVES MATTER MASTER-SITE
Black Visions Collective: the minnesota freedom fund is overwhelmed with donations right now (which is great!!), and they’ve suggested helping out this Black, LGBTQ-run organization. Reclaim the Block needs help too!
bail funds: saw a tweet that said “if you ever said ‘be gay, do crime’ then you should donate to a bail fund.” and well ... it’s true! here are links for boston, jacksonville, brooklyn, los angeles, louisville, orlando, charlotte, columbus (where i donated!!!), atlanta, miami, chicago, tampa, nashville and a national bail fund.
medical supplies: the minnesota governor has deployed the national guard in an effort to protect property and police, NOT its own citizens. this will absolutely lead to violence against protestors, so here’s a link to donate funds for medical resources.
Homeless Black Trans Women Fund: This fund is for the community of homeless Black Trans women that live in Atlanta, since Atlanta has almost no resources for Transgender women.
Support Black-Owned Businesses ATL: Some black businesses were affected during the May 29th protests. Donate here so they can make necessary repairs to these businesses.
Rebuild the Long Beach School of Self-Defense: Zahalea Anderson lost her business in Long Beach, California on May 30th, 2020. 25 years in this building running her School of Self Defense, and now it’s been lost to the only fire in Long Beach. Donate here to help her rebuild her business.
please, do the right thing.
