There's such an obvious rift between the things the movie actually takes an interest in – the fragility of superhero identities and the toll that causing collateral damage takes on them, some of the most intimate, open-hearted character work this series has to offer - and the things it at the time apparently had to be - the biggest excess in action imaginable, a set up for like, five different movies – that there's no way around…
Fucking phenomenal. The movie I've been waiting to see all year. Almost had to leave the theater halfway through because I was on the verge of a full-blown panic attack. Whether or not it was the movie itself or just my excitement over how good it was I do not know. Definitely one of the tensest, most awe-inspiring theatrical experiences I've ever had. Possibly James Gray's best film.
