Julian D’s review published on Letterboxd:
Literal chills all over.
Dolan has done it again.. fuck!
Haven't cried this much at a 2019 film yet and not quite sure how many tears I've got left in my body after seeing this.
The cast is really fucking amazing. Jacob Tremblay, Natalie Portman, Kathy Bates, Susan Sarandon, Kit Harrington... They all did THAT! Tremblay's performance is Exquisite. I don't think there's a better child actor working in the industry at the moment.
A beautiful screenplay that's 100000x made more beautiful by Dolan's perfect directing. Will any director top it this year? Don't think so.
This is a story I can deeply relate to (especially Tremblay's character) and I adore with how much care and grace it's written.
Beautiful score too!
All the critics are clowns for giving The Death of John F. Donovan such negative reviews.. fuck all of you for making me so skeptical of this beforehand, when it's literally one of this decade's and Dolan's best films.
My only criticism is that I would've loved to see Bella Thorne, but unfortunately Dolan cut her out :/
