I convinced my mom to watch this and I feel like my effort to consistently and accurately mansplain the movie to her gave me an entirely new level of understanding of the film because of how much attention I had to be giving to it to be able to explain it.
There are maybe 20 storylines thrown at you in the first half hour and it just gets exponentially more overwhelming as it goes on. I think I’ve connected most of the dots and I don’t want to say this is my favorite movie already but literally what else even comes close to this.
I still love Donnie Darko but it’s now obvious that Donnie Darko was just a mere stepping stone for Richard Kelly to unleash every shitty idea he has ever had into one movie in Southland Tales.
