    Alita: Battle Angel

Battle Angel Alita (or Gunm if you are going to be picky) is one of my all time favourite manga and anime. My first reaction to the trailers was "Oh dear God no".

I am pleased to report I have never seen such an accurate, respectful, and downright visually stunning recreation of manga/anime on the Hollywood screen (see it at the cinema!).

I absolutely loved loved loved this from beginning to end.

They utilise the complete first story arc of…

    Blade Runner 2049

I can't remember the last time a film stunned me into silence on the way home. Admittedly I was by myself - so talking out loud about the weather and what I'm having for dinner would have been a bit weird - but my mind was still buzzing with thoughts and emotions from the last 163 minutes I'd witnessed, that before I knew it I was home and didn't remember the journey. Good job I didn't get run over.

A big budget sci-fi blockbuster that is absolutely bags of fun from beginning to end. An unashamedly cheesy space opera with a decent heart - with a melting pot of influences, from Cowboy Bebop and Gundam, to Guardians of the Galaxy and even The Fifth Element.

Still stand by this as a beautifully odd, entertaining and misunderstood classic.

Finally got to see the Cannes cut thanks to the new release from Arrow. Just my sort of weird.

    Look Away

The director of this movie is far too obsessed with "horny naked teenage girl" - to the point where it's actively creepy... and not creepy in the good "horror movie" way, more the "gross uncle" kind of way.

    Anthem: Conviction

Billed as a short film but actually just a very expensive fluff trailer.

I can see why Neill was chosen with all the mechs and robotics involved, but it's still a shame.

Really can't wait for Mr Blomkamp to double down on a full movie again - his stuff is so my jam - but these piecemeal bits from Oats Studio just aren't enough to satisfy.
