joseph’s review published on Letterboxd:
amazing cine-pamphlet shot inside the liberated region of dhofar, the site of a socialist and feminist political project that aspired to liberate the whole of the arabian gulf from anglo-american imperialism and extractivism. couldn't help but marvel throughout at the militants' utopian commitment to transform every aspect of life, from education to agriculture, and the filmmaker's 200km trek from the south yemeni border to document it. truly a perfect example of the grand international revolutionary style of filmmaking of the 60s-70s. the different segments are knit together by revolutionary songs; it flows like a symphony. lush to see a restored version rather than - as is often the case with these kinds of films - a muddy youtube upload.
