spends the first half-hour on a setup that seems too good to be true... but it does the damn thing!! a real solid survive-the-night action flick. probably its biggest flaw is that flagrant kollywood disregard for the line between the cool and the absurd. loses a bit of steam as a result, which makes it feel ripe for a remake; it would either become perfect or entirely mediocre.

the editing feels oddly sluggish compared to the manic energy everything else is going for? and it's not as funny as it thinks it is. but, like, the bar is on the floor here, and it's more than decent fun, so okay.
i think this was the only movie i was really looking forward to in 2020. sorry i swear i'll watch that a24 stuff too. margot robbie kind of sucks here, but that's fine because she's hot.

you know how patrick bateman pays lip service to a couple of relevant social issues and then goes on to kill a homeless person in cold blood. i thought that part was interesting

i know it's, like, our thing, but it is so fun whenever i recognize an indian movie very specifically ripping off another movie. it's as though i'm seeing a slightly uncommon animal in the wild.
the rest of the movie drifts in and out, but that last hour is so shankar. the more things change, the more his penchant for weirdly brutal violence stays the same. this includes, but is not limited to, a pair of blood-covered lungs on the road, still respirating. rated u for unrestricted!

"technology is bad because it's addictive" um okay 🤨 "technology is bad because what if all the cellphones got possessed by 5G bird ghosts and started killing people" OMG NOOOO 😱😱😱

cinematic equivalent of those buffalo wings covered in gold. i morbidly admire shankar's talent for cinematically burning money (once again OBTUSE in these musical numbers), but here it's all for a dual-role comedy-of-errors that does not have comedy. my least favorite shankar so far because it has commited the unforgivable sin of being normal.
