Is a bad Michael Mann movie still a good movie? Uh almost. No one cracks a smile in this dour and preposterous film, but Mann gives you some visceral moments that are stirring. Chris Hemsworth is a handsome beast, but I find him best leavened with humor or at least some irony. For Mann completists.

A bleak yet riveting film. You want to root for the characters, but they just can't get out of their own way.

This is a sweet natured and hopeful movie with a jaunty Huckleberry Finn style river trip at the core of the film. Shia LaBeouf is a surprise here, still his surly self but with a likable and sympathetic core that centers the film. There is a nice bit of magical realism at the end which is genuinely touching.

One of the greatest all time chase movies, that catches its breath by immersing us in a nightmarish hallucination of faith and fanaticism. This is one of those movies that gets your heartbeat up from the jump. It's sort of not like anything else, in the best way.
