I actually enjoy this one more than the other two. I like the corruption of Thorin and his nationalisty dynamic. His arc isn’t without its faults, but alongside Thranduil, I think some of the most interesting character work is with his character here. Both have an interesting complexity to them. I also think Bilbo is at his best here and I like the lamentations on elven immortality near the end.

    I HATED Deena.

    Haaaaated her.

One of the most annoying characters I’ve ever seen in film history. Cringey, always playing victim, had no reason to hate Sam, every line of dialogue she uttered was annoying, and she was just an overall shitty person. Sam was entirely right to leave her. God she’s awful.

The movie was fun though. Would definitely watch the other two in the trilogy. It was silly in all the good ways. Didn’t take itself too seriously. Despite, creating the most annoying character in history the movie is pretty fun. It’s also pretty funny.

They could get away with calling this feminist if the protagonists liberation and empowerment was rooted in something other than her submission to sexual violence and the sacrifice of her agency. It would also help if her journey wasn’t a product solely of the decisions of or about men. Coerced sex is how she…
