    Sullivan's Travels

Influential (I can only assume Coen's...), funny, satirical, episodic (it can be a good thing), sweet, incisive, and just plain good fun.

Slapstick early fun with the romantic play (see pool scene), shifting to a charming message about the magic of cinema and comedy. Anthony Ramos exudes goodness from his pores. He makes me want to be a better man.

The sense of community and culture is inspiring. It bounces off the screen.

Oh please cut 25 minutes from this and it could have been something truly special.

I'm being slightly a half star more generous because this is so full of life and joy that I can forgive its excess length.

Ooooh, this was interesting. A bit grimy. I just wanted more.

Kind of like the Piano Teacher but not as good

A strong first half and I don't think it's harsh to say a weak second half . Character decisions didn't feel true to the preceding events as the film rushed to get the main character to where it wanted to take her. But missed a few things in the middle .

Still, it's challenging in a good way (my partner and i had very different interpretations of some facets), and also problematic in others
