    Dune

    ★★★★½

The second I left the theater, I wanted to turn around and immerse myself in this truly sprawling and alien megabudget miracle all over again. A complete triumph of slow drone meditative sci-fi. The perception altering X-perience Jodorowsky wanted to inject into multiplex minds worldwide. Lynch’s bold images burrowed deeper down and stretched brutalist stark to explore a distant future not too far removed from our imperialist present.

I can’t wait to slip under this movie’s spell large and in charge in a theater again.

    Jodorowsky's Dune

Brontis referring to his dad as “Alejandro.”  Makes u think.

Dev*n Far*ci, Richard St*nley, and an A*n’t It C**l News reporter all appear as talking heads in this doc. Extremely cursed vibes. Film fandom and “expertise” from almost decade ago feels as far off and alien as Arrakis.

"Put the Act of Seeing With One's Own Eyes in this package."

"Union Square. Andy Warhol would watch us out of a window."

A homeless man cleans a car windshield: "This was pre-Giuliani New York. These guys…

    Suspiria

    ★★★

Took me half a week to finally log a review for this remake 'cause it's so exhausting. Luca G's Suspiria is kind of a mess that tries to do way too much without really hitting any mark over a bloated span of nearly three hours. I dug the oppressive cold restrained vibe and authentic feeling '70s aesthetic from the fashions to striking locations to the camerawork full of zooms and sustained takes. Most of the movie nails a sort of…
