"LET IT BE KNOWN: SATAN WAS AN ACID HEAD."
Watching an original print with most of the gore cut let me focus on the character driven horror moments, like the pregnant hippie weeping over her incurable rabies or the mute doe-eyed longhair putting an electric carver to the neck of a humble hostess. Surprisingly well shot, effective body horror way ahead of its time. I actually felt for those faux hippies a l'il as they lose their humanity and rip people to shreds and spew foam all over the rural populace. I also love how the film is rooted in a bleak post-Manson nightmare premise on par with anything the Texas Chainsaw Massacre or its ilk would later throw up. Bummer, indeed.
