“Nothing will make sense to your American ears, and you will doubt everything that we do, but in the end you will understand.”
    - Alejandro

It’s really tough knocking down a film that’s been five stars for so many years down to four and a half, but I definitely still love it. Blunt, Del Toro, and Kaluuya are all incredibly powerful presences, and watching them work within the harshest of realities is spellbinding stuff. Jóhannsson’s score is the heartbeat behind…

“Remember Red, Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.”
    - Andy Dufresne

The Shawshank Redemption. A story as humbling and earnest as they come. A story so humble and earnest that it earns its name amongst the absolute greatest of films to ever be made in cinema’s history. And to me I’d say that if a story whose intent is to see the innate good in people is that majorly regarded as…

    The Social Dilemma

Most everything that is brought up by these industry experts is genuinely interesting and important, and it allows for a much needed discourse. Especially considering this was a Netflix release; so many people have seen and will see this documentary, and it will always be relevant.

Though I will say, it starts to become ridiculous with these overworked dramatizations. Did we really need an Inside Out-esque vision of the teenage guy’s phone? It just took me out of the interviewee’s vitally well-versed messages, and there was really no need.

“Been thinking a lot about time; how it gets used and why. Why one person lives a lifetime and another only gets a few years.”
    - Sanchez

This was pretty disappointing. It’s never really clear exactly what kind of story Clooney is trying to tell, even at the very end; there’s no intention whatsoever of what direction the film was going. Nothing really happens at all? There are quite a few pretty great scenes on the actual Aether spacecraft, but…

“The world does keep moving, and it can be a damn cruel place. But for me, those moments of stillness, that place; that’s the kingdom of God.”
    - Joe

Man. This film right here is just so incredibly moving. It’s a much more grounded and attainable version of the centrally conflicting story A Star Is Born tries to tell. It’s not at all the cinematic rise and fall of a superstar turned addict. Sound of Metal is instead this hugely powerful perspective piece…

  • Tenet

    “See you in the beginning.”
    - Neil

Christopher Nolan’s reputation for tackling hugely original sci-fi projects precedes itself, but with Tenet he raises the bar even higher. I personally believe this is easily his most ambitious project yet, rounding up a new technical team to make everything look and sound like a Nolan film should. Differently from his other films, a lot of character background and concept exposition isn’t just spoon-fed to the viewer; information is relayed between the characters in a…
